July 2008

Even though I have enabled location services on my phone, the GPS coordinates are stripped (along with the rest of the Exif header) when photos are e-mailed from my Camera Roll, and corrupted when I make edits in iPhoto. I have yet to test it, but I’m assuming the technical metadata is removed when I use the Wordpress application as well.

So far the only iPhone application to find a workaround has been www.airme.com, which does away with Exif altogether and grabs the location from a completely separate process. It then allows you to publish the photos to Flickr, and manually inserts the coordinates into the corresponding tags.

Since I have no interest in bootleg workarounds at this point (I’m also trying to avoid Flickr), I’ll be patient and see what happens. Until then, my apologies for not having any of these photos plotted. I’ll continue to post a screenshot of my GPS if it seems interesting.

A small sample of all the pictures of my niece that my sister mails to me. They always end up at work, for some reason. I need some frames!
